Training and Professional Experience

Lou is one of only a small number of healthcare practitioners worldwide who have undertaken multiple full professional courses of training (in Lou's case: chiropractic, acupuncture and nutrition), all of which she now integrates in her work, allowing her a real flexibility of approach when working with patients.

Originally graduating as a Chiropractor in 1996, Lou went on to complete a four-year Licentiate of Acupuncture and a 5-year MSc in Nutritional Medicine. In addition to her 20 years of experience as a practitioner, she has also taught chiropractic, nutrition and acupuncture at both undergraduate and postgraduate level at English universities.

Now in her 40's and firmly based in New Zealand, Lou puts all this professional experience together with her learning as the mother of two young children, allowing her to offer a calm, centred, empathic approach to treatment that looks at the root causes of ill health, honouring the individuality and unique needs of each patient.

Acupuncture / Oriental Medicine

This ancient healing tradition originating in China has been used to balance mind, body and spirit for thousands of years. Needles are not always necessary - diet, exercise, massage, herbs and lifestyle advice are also used in this integrated and holistic system of healthcare.

Chiropractors are trained to thoroughly assess and treat mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system (joints, muscles, nerves, tendons etc) and use approaches such as mobilisation, gentle manipulation, soft tissue release techniques and exercises to normalise joint motion, ease pain and minimise the chances of problems recurring.

Having studied both Eastern and Western approaches to health, Lou integrates both with her knowledge of nutrition and her love of simple, nourishing, satisfyingly good food. Her passion is in helping her clients discover the diet that is optimal for their own unique constitution, and how to prepare it in the midst of their often busy lives.

Lou has long been interested in how humans can live better, both within themselves and alongside the other forms of life with which we share the Planet. In her acupuncture training, her 50,000 word thesis brought together ancient Chinese theories of how to "Live According to the Seasons" and much of her work as a practitioner is about helping individuals find ways of being that allow them to live life more connected to the rhythms and cycles of nature, both within themselves and without.

After having children, Lou's interest in health has expanded from the personal to the global and she is mindful of the legacy that the adults of today are leaving for their children.

In addition to advocating for Sustainability locally, she is currently training as a practitioner of The Natural Step - an easily implementable framework that helps organisations (from community groups to local councils to multinational corporations) understand Sustainability and make it a practical reality in their own unique context. She is looking forward in time to expanding her practice to include working with businesses and organisations to help them make a positive impact on the natural world and to be "fit for the future".
